It is often said that is a good teacher is simple defined by the burning desire to impart knowledge. However, ground reality dictates that a teacher needs to have so much more so that the students do not end up losing interest after just the first ten minutes. To keep the attention and curiosity of classes that show no sign of growing smaller in number, a teacher needs enthusiasm and tools to make learning a whole lot of fun.
Teachers are expected to be role-models in this world where information can be had in very glamorous formats through the internet, the poise, charisma and communicative ability of a teacher can mean the difference between a class cheering for more or a bunch of kids struggling to stay awake.
The module is divided in to four main areas. Emphasis is laid throughout on how the principles of speech and drama can be applied to any subject part of conventional curriculums:
- Speech & Voice
- Poetry Sessions
- Drama & Theater
- Communication Skills
Upgrade 101 is a two day full time program conducted by Mahrukh N. Bharucha at various times during the year for teachers and trainers. Passing through this module also qualifies an individual to teach students who want to appear for the various practical group examinations conducted LAMDA.
The LTCC is designed to help non-UK teachers develop the skills to teach communication and speech, primarily in the context of LAMDA’s
Level 1 Communication examinations. The syllabus reflects the complex role of the communications teacher, combining research, analysis and reflection with practical exercises and tasks.
The LTCC comprises attendance on an approved teaching course for a minimum of 25 hours and is assessed through internal and external observation. The LTCC is a multi-unit qualification and all units are compulsory.
Internal Assessment Task – give an a oral presentation that includes:
- A memorised performance of one of the set poems from the LAMDA Verse and Prose Anthology Vol. 17 from Introductory to Grade 3
- A presentation of strategies for teaching the speaking of this poem to an individual learner.
Prepare a ten-lesson Scheme of Work for the teaching of one LAMDA Communication subject at either Entry Level or Level 1.
